Five ways to incorporate financial planning into your lifestyle

For many of us, financial planning can seem like a daunting task. We often associate it with terms like “budgeting” and “saving,” which can make it feel like something restrictive and difficult to maintain. But the truth is, financial planning doesn’t have to be complicated or unpleasant. In fact, there are many small changes you can make in your everyday life that can help you get your finances on track.

Here are five simple ways to get started.

Evaluate your current situation

Start by evaluating your current financial situation. What are your income and expenses? Do you have any debt? This will give you a good starting point for setting financial goals and getting your finances in order. Track your spending for one month; this will help you identify areas where you can cut back.

Create a budget and stick to it

A budget will help you make the most of your income and put you in a healthier financial position. Make sure to include savings in your budget; even a small amount can add up over time. Once you have a budget, try your best to stick to it. Sometimes this means making sacrifices, but it will be worth it in the long run.

Save money by automating your savings

Set up a direct deposit from your paycheck into a savings account or set up automatic transfers from your checking account to your savings account. In doing so, you will make saving money easier and less painful. You can also automate your investments so that you are contributing to a retirement account or other investment account regularly.

Create a Debt Reduction Plan

If you have debt, create a plan to pay it off as quickly as possible. If you have any High-Interest Debt, such as credit card debt, pay that off first. Once you have a plan in place, automate your payments so that you are making progress on paying down your debt each month.

Live below your means

Spend less than you earn and save the rest. It might seem obvious but sometimes we forget this simple rule in the midst of our busy lives. One way to make sure you are living below your means is to track your spending and see where you can cut back, which goes back to our previous points. While spending money and living life is important, we have to be mindful of our spending to reach our financial goals.
